Here is my quick review of Fro Fashion Week (FFW). If you aren't familiar with Fro Fashion Week it happens twice a year. Once in the Spring and once in the Fall. I went to the very first FFW, which was in 2011 I believe and it was awesome, but this review will be of my second time attending FFW, which was Feb 4-5.
To The Point:
I really enjoyed myself. I went with a different person (my co-chair of Kingdom Curls Lydia) so this trip was a bit more business verses exploring, but over all still fun. Lydia made it to Fro Fashion Week Thursday and I arrived Saturday morning and stay until Sunday evening.
1.)FFW was at Hotel Mela, which is quite nice and located in down town Atlanta.
2.)There were several sponsors and vendors. Some I recognized from last time like Jessie Curl's and the V-Bar Lady (The V-Bar Lady sells soap for women and their goody basket if you get me drift, she also sells soap for men as well) and a few new faces. Some of the new faces include Brijor (vendor), which is a clothing and jewelry boutique that I bought some very fly tights from (BOW! www.Brijorfashionjewels.com) and Beautiful Textures (facebook.com/BeautifulTextures) that hook myself and others up like no one's business! They (beautiful textures) gave out a free full size bottle of each of their products just for putting their slogan on my status. I can roll with that.
3.)There were several workshops. Some on hair of course, but a few out of the box workshops as well. Two I really enjoyed were shops that talked about 1.) How to begin your career as a natural hair model by: Jasmine Johnson who has modeled herself and Looking Fab on a Budget/Confessions of a Thrift Shopper by: Keren Charles and Kerri Cooke. *If you would like more insight of one of the two workshops or both leave a post and title it which ever one your interested in.
4.)Pent House Party- It was very fun, the music was extremely loud (my ears rang the rest of that night I think), but the party itself wasn't too big or small it was an intimate, friendly, upscale setting. The DJ went by DJ Spontaneous and he did a great job mixing everything from 90's music, Reggae, to yes of course today's drop it low type tracks. I do not recall the MC's name, but he did a great job keeping people hype and heels scratching up the floor. I was pleased to see different genders, cultures (at least one Anglo or Euro-American couple), and ages enjoy themselves. Shout outs to the CEO of FFW Tarin Boone and her team for pulling off a great weekend that also happened to be Super Bowl Weekend and rain...hard to do. Also Shout outs to Victoria Wray of Natural La Glam who came by to say hello to Lydia and I.
Over all: worth the drive (for me about 8hrs) after working the night before...yeah I had a driver.
